Centre stand

Some people say it's useful, some people say it isn't

Transalp is a heavy motorcycle. That's why HONDA decided not to fit a centre-stand as a standard equipment, thus saving money for them and lowering the (unacceptably high already) cost of the bike. Fortunately there is a provision for it, if it is  made specifically for this motorcycle. Only the US model cannot be equipped with a centre stand.

Such stands are provided by HONDA and third-party manufacturers (e.g. RICKY CROSS). I suggest to purchase the OEM one because it is supplied with a very useful handle. That handle, installed on the left side of the frame, is used for lifting the bike in order to support it on the stand. If you are not a new Schwartzeneger, you will probably need it.
If you have  already purchased a third party centre-stand and you can't use it effectively because of to the above reason, you may add an iron extension to the left side of it (on the side opposite to the chain). This extension may help by stepping on it while trying use the stand. BMW F650 (Funduro) has a similar extended stand.

Since any centre-stand reduces the ground clearance, the stand may hit the ground when you drive on dirt and the bike is moderately loaded (e.g with a passenger). However there is no fear of any damage. Actually, the stand acts like an additional "mudguard". Anyway, it's better not to fit a centre stand if you are an aggressive off-road driver.

Is this accessory, finally, a necessary one? According to my opinion, it is useful but not indispensable. It helps too much when lubricating the chain, repairing the inner tube or cleaning the rim. In my backyard, I never had enough room for an external support stand, so I bought a centre stand and I am happy with it. Although it's not cheap.
